Polygiene ViralOff® proven effective against SARS-CoV-2
Polygiene can proudly announce that they are the first commercial textile treatment in the world to pass the ISO method* test on the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
While this comes as no surprise to us, it is still of enormous value to have a confirmation that the SARS-CoV-2 behaves the same as the other standard viruses tested in real world commercial contexts.
Commercially, it changes few things formally. We have always worked with a very serious approach that anything treated with ViralOff will pass the ISO test and that we can predict the effect on viruses that are not tested directly, through our base research. Emotionally, it of course is great to have the first ISO evidence of efficacy against the SARS-CoV-2, and of course, it will translate to new opportunities for us – and for you.
It means we can say it has been tested and proven by the real deal ISO method on the COVID-19 virus. As long as this virus is considered dangerous it will not be available for commercial testing of specific product applications – we will not try to make test for specific products but reserve these opportunities for product development and general learning. With this first, and subsequent tests, we will be able to compare commercial tests on H1N1 or other “safer” viruses to the results on the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
As you know, this is a treatment that protects the garments, not the wearer.
In a survey we just conducted of 600 Americans aged 18-100, about 3 in 4 say they wash more than before the Covid19 situation, over 30% say “a lot” or “a great deal more”. This takes time and is inconvenient, but more importantly it puts a huge strain on the environment. Washing a load every other day means about 1/10 of the CO2 emissions from the average car. Washing increases wear and tear dramatically. To make a long story short – when people start washing more because of concerns of viruses, garments live shorter lives and that is not a good thing at all.
